Product Reviews
Despite being less popular than other pets, chinchillas still attract a lot of attention from various companies. These companies create and market numerous products many of which are good and many of which aren’t. Over the years we’ve tried some of these chinchilla products and we’re now sharing our findings here.
Chinchilla Bath House
In another article we discussed the need to allow your chinchilla to bathe. However, we didn't mention specifics on dust bath options which we'll do here.
Water Bottles and Food Dishes
Water bottles and food dishes come in all shapes and sizes. We've tried a few, but have now settled on particular models.
Chinchilla Treats
A varied diet is important to maintain the health of your chinchilla. Treats also provide a way to build trust. While raisins are clearly favored by our chinchillas, we also try other products to provide variety and balance.
Chinchilla Exercise Wheels
There are several things to consider when buying a wheel for your chinchilla. First off, you'll need to get one that is much bigger than the kind you've probably seen for hamsters. And because of the size of the wheel and the weight of a chinchilla, we recommend getting a metal wheel rather than a plastic one. Metal will also fare better since chinchillas won't hesitate to chew plastic.
Chinchilla Books
There are several chinchilla books available, but not all are equally good. Some even contradict what we consider to be good practice. The following paragraphs provide brief descriptions of the books we've read and our recommendations as to which books are worth purchasing.
Chin-Chiller
We prefer to avoid reviewing an item that we haven't actually owned, but when we read about a product called the Chin-Chiller, we couldn't resist.
Chinchilla Toys
An entertained chinchilla is a happy chinchilla. So you'll want to provide as many toys and accessories as you can while being reasonable with the costs. Over the years we've tried several products with a few of them emerging as favorites.
Chinchilla Chew Toys
Chinchillas need to constantly chew on things to keep their teeth healthy. Might as well have fun doing it, wouldn't you say? Here are some of the chew toys we've tried over the years.
