Is there anything else you can use for dust baths instead of the "special" dust?

One of my 2 8-mos old chinchilla females (littermates) died by getting caught in a hammock tie, and then, I guess, having heart failure while thrashing about. I'm planning to get another chin because our remaining one seems very depressed. Anybody have any experience with this kind of misfortune?

    How long do chichillas live?

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. My chinchilla just turned 3 and she seems to be rubbing her face in her poop or pee, I'm not home to see what she does, but it is yellow and wet and smells. Also she won't chew any of her treats or sticks. Would anyone suggest or know what is wrong? she has been doing this for about 3 weeks now, but it has gotten worse recently

    • salsa:

You may want to see a vet for that kind of thing. Or she may want you to give her dryer lining in her cage.

    • ChinchillaExpert:

you may also want to try taking it to a vet. There might be something wrong.

depends on your climate, if you live in a humid area bathe it about 3 times a week, if you live in a dry area 1 or 2 is better
